The Immigrant Cycle

Six stages that almost every migration passes through, in some order, sometimes more than once. The cycle is the spine of this project: every book, every voice, and every dataset here maps back to it.

Stage 01

Pressure

Before anyone moves, something makes staying impossible.

Economic collapse, violence, climate, a closing future for children, or simply a door that opened once. Migration rarely starts with wanderlust. It starts with arithmetic that no longer works.

What this stage asks of a person

Name the real reason, not the acceptable one.

The cycle repeats across a family, not just a person.

A father may still be in Surviving while his daughter is already in Becoming. A mother may be Leaving a second time while her son has never left at all. Most family conflict in migration is really two people standing in different stages of the same journey.
